I started making art during my holidays, then I decided to post it. I didn't even realise when I started chasing the algorithm and performing.
I felt extremely disconnected from the art I made, and frustrated. Eventually I burnt out.
Some time later I started making art again, but I still wasn't able to enjoy it. I thought if I let go of the result, I'd get my spark back. But I felt confused, because at the time letting go of it meant wanting to make only messy, childish art. Some days I wanted my art to look pretty and detailed, but I thought maybe I shouldn't feel that way.
1.Now I've understood: it's okay to want to make pretty, detailed art. You just need to stop letting it define you.
2.I kept treating my art like an obligation, something that defined my value, instead of a hobby. We don't have to make art every single day. We don't have to bring self-help into every part of our lives. Let your hobby stay a hobby. It's okay to not do it consistently, or to be terrible at it.
Now I make art much less than I used to, because I do it only when I want to.
